Racquetball

I have never played a sport before that involved a racquet of some sort. Even in gym class, when we played tennis, I wouldn’t play. You see, hand and eye coordination is not something that I am amazing at. However, my friend convinced me to come play racquetball at the local YMCA.

First of all, let me just say that if you don’t have membership to an amazing facility, such as the YMCA, you should. I believe that it is such a good membership to have. An ordinary gym doesn’t allow you to have access to a pool, basketball courts, racquetball courts, and more.

In any case, my friend convinced me to go to the Y with him. Of course, he is an experienced racquetball player. He and his dad play almost weekly!

The rules of the game are pretty simple, all you have to do is use your racquet to hit a ball against the front wall.  There are many rules to the game, but really, the point of the game is to hit the ball and try to make it so that your opponent cannot hit it back. The ball is allowed to hit the ground once, but that’s it. If it bounces twice, or your return does not hit the front wall, then the other person gets a point.

The best part about the game is that the ball can bounce off of any of the walls, including the ceiling. Apparently, it is hilarious to see a newbie try to become accustomed to the bounce of the ball. Pretty much, you are trapped in an enclosed space in which you try to hit the ball back and forth.

It’s great. You should try this fun, but very physically active sport.
