medical exercise expertQ:  My friend told me about Plyometrics and said that I should use this type of training to increase my strength. What is this? I have no idea; and is it really helpful?

A:  Plyometrics is a type of exercise program that many athletes use to improve core muscle strength and increase the intensity of workouts.  Many of these exercises are based with “jumping” at their core.  This type of exercise is some of the basis of Crossfit as well.

Some exercises include:  Squat jump, lateral jump, box jumps, alternate leg bounding and burpee’s.

This type of training can be very helpful, and can work well when people don’t have too much time to train.
