yoga stretch (400x400)It can be tricky keeping up your exercise routine while you are on vacation, but don’t give up hope. There are a ton of really easy exercises you can do no matter where you are. Here are some of my favorite rather portable workouts. Make sure you talk to a professional trainer or a physician before starting your own workout to make sure you don’t injure yourself.

1) Beach runs – Looking to keep up your running regimen, but don’t want to put in a lot of time? Doing a few laps on the beach will give you a great workout, but also add an additional challenge. This way you get a bit stronger and a great cardio workout, and you can get home a little sooner by running instead of walking.

2) Yoga online – If you have access to the Internet, check out some of the many yoga workouts available online. You can continue your yoga practice even if you don’t have access to a studio or understand the local language. You don’t even need a video,  because you can do a few sun salutations or a stretch sequence you have learned in your regular class to keep flexible.

3) Do fun activities – There are a ton of fun gym exercises you can do on vacation and have fun with. Rent a kayak, go for a long swim across the lake, go on a long hike, spend the entire day walking around the city, rent bikes and enjoy the scenery – there are a lot o fun activities you can do instead of a separate workout. Use an app to monitor your movement so you can see how much you are getting done.

4) Test drive a gym – If you like working out at a gym, you can always try out a few local gyms in the area you are visiting. Ask for a trial membership or buy a day guest pass. This way you can use all of the gym equipment you are used to, or in some cases even try a class, and not worry about getting behind on your workout.

5) Cross fit on the go – If you are looking for a diverse workout, you can do some crossfit workouts in your hotel room with little to no equipment. Check out some of the websites to get a good routine you can do wherever you are. If you have access to a hotel gym you can even use weights, but you don’t NEED them.
