Best Cities for Walking

May 3rd, 2012 by Bea | Walking
It is hard to get your daily fitness routine in if you live in a place that does not motivate you to get outside. Coming from personal experience, I know that I do not like to get my workout in in an area where I constantly have to pay attention to the cars around me. MSNBC recently published an article about the top 25 cities for walking. They used their resources (walkscore.com and prevention.com) to pull together this list of cities that are great to walk in.

They have a list of the top 25, but I'll start with number

Shin Splint Pain

April 23rd, 2012 by Bea | Walking
Have you ever had a pain in your shins that feels like it's ripping vertically through your shin? If you answered  yes, then you probably know what shin splints feel like.

Many people get shin splint pain when they first start a new walking program. I don't just mean a new program altogether in terms of starting from mile zero. Unless you have the luxury of delegating work to others, finding the time to build strength often involves serious commitment and strict time management.

Yet, this should not be the case. As with other aspects of fitness, a person should be able to work strength training exercises in to his or her daily routine without a noticeable “loss” of time.

For example, we all know the tip about taking

Walking in Heels

December 8th, 2011 by Bea | Walking
Are you stuck wearing heels to work or for another commitment? Don’t worry, that only means that you will be putting yourself in a position to exercise. I must put a disclaimer out there that heels are not typically good for your feet. They can give you shin splints and in general, provide little support for your feet; however, you may need to walk in heels from time to time.

Studies have shown that high heels can create a firmer butt and work out your calves. You probably already knew the calves portion of that fact. Livestrong.com even has a
