It’s Time to Get Started

Walking
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you should exercise for 30 minutes a day, five days a week.  It sounds simple, doesn't it?  However, there are many excuses:
  • I don't have time.
  • I'm too tired.
  • My life is too stressful already.
  • I don't have the correct equipment.
  • I don't have time to go to the gym.
I'm sure there are more, but these are some of the most common that I've heard.  As with anything in life, we can make excuses and avoid things, or we can analyze our excuses and take action.  So. . .let's analyze! 1. I don't have time. No, you probably...

One Can Equal Three

Exercises, Strength Training
No, that is not a math equation, nor is it a typographical error.  It's a simple way to expand your exercise regimen. A while ago we posted an article about muscle confusion.  Simply put, if you continue to do the same exercises, they become less effective.  However, the idea of finding new exercises may seem like too much work.  Here is a simple way to take an arm/upper body exercise and make it into three different exercises. 1. boyWhy are so many people registering their children or themselves for martial arts classes?  There are numerous reasons to get involved in the martial arts.  Whether you're trying to gain confidence, get into better shape or learn self-defense, martial arts is the answer. First, what are martial arts?  The definitions vary from person to person.  Some say meditative art forms while others say hand-to-hand combat education.  There is no one true way to sum them up.  Martial arts are fighting systems derived from many years of experience and practice that allow...

My Grandma Can Kick Your Butt!

grandmaAccording to my dad, my grandparents walked uphill, both ways, through twelve feet of snow, with only one pant leg and no shoes.  This was only their journey to school each day.  No wonder they were also able to inhale a pound of bacon and never worry about calories. I am certain my sweet grandmother never chased Native Americans from her land with a rifle.  I do believe older generations needed to work harder to get anything done.  They washed clothes in a washtub and scrubbed each article by hand.  Lawnmowers weren't motorized.  My dad remembers shoveling snow from the street because...
